“Strength of a Vampire” takes up where “Being a Vampire” left off, with Rix once again looking for a place to live. His desperate search for a safe sanctuary takes him to a chaotic house full of other vampires. Rix has always favored independence, but he builds unexpected ties with the young vampires that live in the house, each with their own struggles and tales. He discovers a sense of belonging among them.
Rix learns to admire Bryer, the house master who governs the rowdy group in a stern but fair manner. Her leadership is put to the test as the COVID-19 pandemic develops, making it more difficult for the vampires to locate food and escalating tensions within the household.
As the summer of 2020 erupts into nightly riots, Rix discovers an unexpected benefit: a continuously full belly. Protests become both a feeding ground and a backdrop for introspection, amidst the crowds and teargas. Rix begins to find connections between humanity’s struggle for justice and his own survival.
In the midst of this upheaval, Rix is taken by surprise, which changes everything and gives him a glimmer of hope. Just as things appear to be settling, catastrophe strikes. In the aftermath, Rix is forced to make a tragic choice.
“Strength of a Vampire” is the story of tenacity, unexpected friendships, and the desire for belonging in a world flipped upside down. It delves into themes of independence, leadership, and the strength of solidarity in the face of hardship. Rix’s journey to find his place in this new reality is laden with difficulties, but it is also full with opportunities for growth and repentance.
